Hot Cross Buns Follow Up Activities: Do Re Mi Scramble
We’ve played a lot of listening games so far and this week, we’re going get some gross motor action in there to mix things up a bit.
Tell your learners that….
Today we are going to play a listening game with Do (play Do), Re (play Re) and Mi (play Mi). On one side of the room is the area for Do. When you hear Do (play Do) you have to move to that side of the room. On the other side of the room, we have Re (play Re), and when you hear Re, you have to go to that side. Lastly, in the back of the room, we have Mi (play Mi). And when you hear Mi, you have to go to the back of the room.
Then, like the other listening games we’ve played, hide the bells from view, and start quizzing your group-- “What Note Is It?”
If you’re doing this activity at home, it’s a great way to add some serious movement to your musical guessing games. If you’re doing it with a class, you might have to take the movement bit of it a little slower (don’t want kids running around the music area TOO much). But in a group setting, you’ll have the added element of peer pressure when it comes to guessing the notes, which will make it slightly more interesting as compared to past listening activities.
You can also ask your learn some questions about what they learned in music this week. Some examples are…
Do you remember the words to sing Hot Cross Buns?
What are the number names for Do, Re, Mi?
What are the colors for Do, De, Mi?
What note does Hot Cross Buns start on?
In the next lesson, we jump back into a rhythm lesson with Sweet Beets 4! This time, we'll add in Pineapple to represent triplet notes!!
