In this episode we practice a popular chord progression by playing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Instead of trying to play each note in all three chords, we simplify it by just playing the ROOT NOTE, or base note, of each chord.
In the “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” we…
-Play the note C to accompany the C chord happening in the music
-Play the note F to accompany the F chord happening in the music
-Play the note G to accompany the G chord happening in the music
The Lion Sleeps Tonight Challenge
As important as it is to understand and internalize that each chord has a ROOTE NOTE, there is a good chance that this lesson becomes a little too easy for your learner.
A good way to expand on the lesson is to add the next note in each chord, and to play two notes (instead of just the one) as each bell jumps into the water.
This would mean that:
-Instead of playing just the C Bell, play the C and E bell
-Instead of playing just the F Bell, play the F and A bell
-Instead of playing just the G Bell, play the G and B bell
This will help your child memorize the sound of the chords even more and provide a fun way to up the difficulty of this popular song!
In the next lesson, we'll continue our rhythm practice with Sweet Beets #6!
